Pheasant Hunting Tips

Of course, the first tip is to have your shotgun loaded before you start out to find some birds.

Good locations for finding pheasants is a dry lake bottom with a significant amount of dead brush and weeds which are about knee to waist high or, in the edges of grain or corn fields.

The rooster (male) pheasant is the one that you want to be hunting. It is colorfully marked with long reddish-brown tail feathers and a red and green head. It has a white ring around its neck and has red-orange and black body. The hen (female) pheasant is smaller than the rooster. She is mostly light brown throughout the whole body and has short light brown tail feathers.

Pheasants follow a schedule as routine as your morning coffee. Understanding their routine can increase you likely hood of flushing out a rooster.

Before sunrise pheasants start their day at roost sites. This is usually the areas of knee to waist high grass or weeds, where they have spent the night. At first light they head for some place to find gravel or grit, such as roadsides, grain fields or similar areas.

They usually begin feeding around 8 am. In some places shooting hours begin at 9 am and the birds are still feeding.

By mid-morning, pheasants have left the fields for dense, thick cover such as standing corn fields, brush patches or native grasses. Here they will hunker down until late afternoon. The nastier the weather, the deeper into cover the pheasant will go.

It is hard to work large fields of standing corn, because pheasants will run to avoid predators. If you are hunting during mid day, then pick ditch banks, field edges, grass field and deep into marshes.

When you do have a successful shot, make sure and mark where the bird fell so it will not be lost on your way to pick it up because the brush and weeds make it difficult to find anything.

Eventually the pheasant has to eat again. So, during the late afternoon, the pheasants move from their loafing spots back to the feeding areas and are easier to spot.

In summary, the best time to hunt pheasants is the first and the last shooting hours of the day.

Hope these pheasant hunting tips were helpful and you have a successful hunting trip.

5 Keys To Good Colon Health

1. Herbal Support for the Colon Muscles
Many people have constipation or partial constipation. Partial constipation is where you do not have as many bowel movements a day as meals you eat. In other words, if you eat 3 times a day you would expect to have 3 bowel movements a day. Having this many bowel movements is often not usual; but it is 'normal'.

To enable this, 'colon cleansing' is often used. A herbal formula is by far the best and easiest way to achieve 3 regular bowel movements a day. The top herbal formula, proven by tens of thousands of people who have used it, is one based on the original formula of the renowned Dr John Christopher. Dr Christopher taught naturopathy and herbalism in America in the 70s and 80s. His formula is fantastic and many slightly different versions exist, some of which credit Dr Christopher and some of which don't!

His herbal formula is based on the herb cascara sagrada (Rhamnus purshiana) supported by 6 or 7 other herbs, including fennel, cayenne pepper, barberry and ginger. It needs to be taken every single day, not just occasionally. (Though sometimes '6 days a week' is recommended, and this is fine.)

2. Fibre and A Good Diet
The second requirement for good bowel function is lots of fibre in the diet. This is most easily achieved by eating lots and lots of vegetables. Brown rice and whole wheat and other whole grains are also high in fibre. When using a cascara-based formula as above, the formula is often supplemented with Psyllium Husks. These are the outer casing of a seed of the Plantago variety, which provide lubricating fibre which absorb water and swell up. This is why you must drink extra water when using Psyllium. Psyllium helps to bulk up the stool making it easier to pass along the bowel. It is wise to drink around 2 litres of water daily anyway, for good health and to achieve soft stools.

3. friendly Bacteria - Acidophilus et al
Many people have a deficiency of 'friendly bacteria'. Bacteria are present in large amounts in the bowel, and in the stool. The 'wrong type' of bacteria, the 'unfriendly bacteria' easily take over in the the bowel so to achieve good bowel health it is helpful if the friendly types are supplemented. These include acidophilus bacteria. The best supplements contain additional types of friendly bacteria too. The best contain patented strains of these which are hardy enough to survive the journey through the stomach to the bowel.

4. Regular exercise
Exercising the abdominal area is important to good bowel health. Vigorous exercise such as racket games which involve stooping and yoga exercises are usually helpful.

5. Calm Nerves
Bowel health is greatly affected by the nervous system. Poor nerves and stress often lead to inflammatory bowel conditions such as diverticulitis, colitis and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

The answer is in steadily building the nerves (eg with herbs or homoeopathy) and learning to relax more. One powerful route to relaxation is through regular meditation .

Using herbs, there are 3-month herbal programmes available which help build the nerves and the adrenal glands, which are important to boost nerve health.

Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain

According to the New England journal of medicine, Americans gain an average of one pound over the holidays. While it doesn’t seem like a lot of weight, that one pound can stay with you for good and add up over time.

The following are five tips to help you enjoy holiday treats, but without the weight gain:

1. Reserve your calories for the best. When you attend a holiday event, decide on one or two “unhealthier” choices that you will eat, making sure they are foods you really like. Keep your portions small. For example, a reasonable portion of cornbread dressing or macaroni and cheese is ½ cup, or the size of ½ orange.

2. Focus on the festivities, not the food. During your holiday dinners, focus on enjoying the atmosphere and the conversations around you. The point of the holidays is not to eat, but to enjoy fellowship with your friends and loved ones.

3. Put leftovers away immediately. If you are hosting a holiday event, store leftovers immediately after everyone is served. Often, we overeat just because the food is there. By putting the food away, you minimize this temptation.

4. Make healthier substitutions when you can. Substitute some of the unhealthier ingredients in your favorite recipes with healthier ones. According to Chris Rosenbloom, a nutrition instructor at georgia State university, the following are some substitutions you can make:

Whole milk: Use either 1 percent, 2 percent, or skim milk.

Cream cheese: Use light or fat-free cream.

egg yolk: Use one egg white or liquid egg substitute.

oil for baking: Use applesauce (yellow cake recipes) or baby food prunes (chocolate recipes) equal to amount of oil called for in the recipe.

Sugar: Reduce to 3/4 cup sugar if the recipe calls for 1 cup of sugar.

    5. Kick up the action a notch.

Focus on increasing your physical activity during the holidays to burn up any extra calories you have eaten. For example, take a 15 minute walk after dinner, play with your children, or perform some situps or jumping jacks during television commercials.
